ABOUT THE PRIMARY SERIES…
The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga is the first of six series that students of the method learn. The Sanskrit name of the series is Yoga Chikitsa which roughly translates to Yoga Therapy. It is an intelligent sequence of postures and strength-building transitions that focuses primarily on creating mobility in all the joints of the body, connecting breath to movement, building strength, and bringing balance to all body systems.
ABOUT THIS SPECIAL CLASS…
For many years Kory had the extreme privilege of being under the tutelage of Ashtanga Yoga luminary, Tim Miller in Encinitas, California. In a practice that has the reputation of being very serious, Tim had a way of bringing levity, compassion, and gentle yet sturdy encouragement to his teaching and the way he held space. Every Tuesday and Saturday, Tim would practice alongside all of his students while gently guiding the class, which would facilitate a strong bond through community and allow students to see their beloved (and revered) teacher practicing.
In honor of Tim, Kory is now offering this same style of practice as a donation-based class open to all who wish to join. She will be practicing along with everyone while offering traditional cuing of Sanskrit posture names, breathing, modification suggestions, and visual demonstration.
It should be acknowledged that while the Primary Series can (and should) be adapted to meet each student’s abilities, this can still be a challenging class for some.
DONATIONS WELCOME BUT NOT REQUIRED…
Kory would like to offer this class to all in the community who wish to practice Yoga. If you are in a place where you’re able to make a donation we’re more than grateful. If a donation is not possible, no questions will be asked. We want to make the practice and a felt sense of community accessible to everyone.
